Samantha Ellis Fox
Samantha is a graduate of the University of Wolverhampton with a BA Hons degree majoring in History of Art followed by a Masters Degree from the University of Ulster.
She lives and works mainly between her two homes in Co Tyrone and Co Donegal where she is as much influenced by the contrasting landscapes of Tyrone as she is with the seascapes of the Inishowen Peninsula. Samantha is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and has recently exhibited in Belfast City Hall and Art Ireland, Dublin.
Her fresh contemporary approach to her Tyrone landscapes and still lifes allow her to reinterpret the images we take for granted, from everyday kitchen objects to the patterns of the Irish landscape. Her work is strongly rendered, the paint thick and tangible and the images reworked until the semi-abstract form emerges.
“It is the forms I am interested in, not the actual objects; it does not matter to me that the object is a cow, a jug or a field, my paintings are about the form. The forms I see are the forms that surround me in my everyday environment…….”
